Miyajima

After Hiroshima, we took the ferry over to Miyajima, an island nearby. It had shrines, a gate in the water and a mountain with monkeys! Also some very aggressive tame deer.

Hiroshima

Saturday morning we took the shinkansen to Hiroshima.

We stopped by the station for lunch - my friends got bento from the convenience store and ate it outside by the station. There were some sweet stands selling fruit and flowers and things.



We took the streetcar (odd, like a three-car train going along the street like a bus) to our ryokan, which was right across from the A-Bomb Dome, a building still mostly intact even though the explosion was right next to it.

It was a really beautiful day, and the memorial park was pretty.

We got stopped by some Jehovah's Witness types, it kind of made Nathalie and me feel at home:
